Nic Elia ’23, is a biochemistry major, as well as a defensemen on SUNY Geneseo’s hockey team. A native of Woodbridge, Ont. in Canada, Nik has been playing hockey since the age of 5 and Geneseo’s hockey program played a large role in choosing the college.
"That was a major factor in my decision to come to Geneseo because if I wanted to just go to university I would have just attended university in Canada but Geneseo gave me a unique opportunity to pursue NCAA hockey as well as top tier athletics."
For Nic, being part of the team meant arriving at Geneseo with a network that not every student has the privilege of enjoying immediately as first-year students.
"As soon as you come to campus you're instantly met with a family of 26 guys or so and if I were to come here as a freshman, that wouldn't really be the case right? You kind of have your roommates and whoever you meet in class but with hockey, you instantly have a family as soon as you get here."
