Faces of Geneseo Summer 2022
Read MoreGeneseo biology student, Micah Hosley, (’24), a recipient of the Geneseo Foundation summer research fellowship, at the Indian Fort Preserve, where he conducted field work with his faculty sponsor, Dr. Kristy Hannam, an associate professor of biology, Monday, June 27, 2022. Hosely, with the guidance of Dr. Hannam, is working on a project funded by a Geneseo Foundation summer research fellowship, making underwater audio recordings at four different freshwater ponds in the area to examine how the eco acoustics reflect the bio diversity of the ponds as well as to track any change which occurs throughout the seasons.
“I love the opportunity to be able to do it (undergraduate research),” said Hosely. “In particular because the reason I got into undergraduate research anyways is because I didnt really and don’t really know where I want to go with careers, so getting involved in the research really has opened the doors.”biologydr. kristy hannameco accousticsgenesee valley conservancyindian fort preservemicah hoselyscienceMatt Burkhartt
Madison Bowyer ’24, a rising junior and a mathematics and adolescent education major, is an events intern and summer tour guide. Madison, whose hometown is Manlius, NY, outside of Syracuse, had an instant connection with Geneseo, the first college she visited, from the moment she entered the village. "I drove in and I saw the Wegmans and the Walmart and the bowling alley, and I saw Rancho and I saw all these places and I was like, this is interesting. And then I pulled up to Doty and I was like, this is the school.” While her parents tried to temper her excitement, Madison’s mind was made up. Madison’s love for mathematics is rooted in her childhood and at Geneseo she has combined that gift with her passion for helping others. "Ever since I was a kid, I loved math. I am the typical nerdy math kid where I want to do math all the time. I do it for fun, I do it as a hobby as well as my major. Growing up, I would tutor people, I would help people in high school, in middle school as well. Knowing that I can help someone and help them experience and understand things from perspectives that they didn't expect to and also to reassure people that you're not going to be good at everything in your life. It's something that, you get it or you don't and if you don't get it, I'll help you try and understand it enough to keep you going."

Mollie Wadhams '24, a musical theater major and business minor at Highland Park in Geneseo, Thursday, July 21, 2022. Wadhams, whose hometown is Albion, has been involved with theater since she was a child, so for her, receiving her acceptance letter was a milestone she can recall in vivid detail. "I got the letter in the mail and I cried, I was bawling my eyes out and I was like, 'I'm doing my dream, I got accepted for doing my dream.' I was the happiest I had ever been. It was amazing."

Lauren Goulet ’22, a sustainability studies major and sociology minor, in the E-Garden, Wednesday, August 3, 2022. "The main reasons I chose Geneseo out of the three colleges that I was accepted to was, one, the office of sustainability and opportunities for hands-on learning and just all the excitement that there seemed to be around sustainability at the college. But also out of all the colleges that I applied to and engaged with via, email and phone, Geneseo, the faculty and staff, at Geneseo, made me feel like a person."
