Holton Hughes '20 Geneseo Gives Back
In my time at Geneseo, I have been heavily involved with Geneseo Gives Back, an incredible organization designed to reduce the waste created by the needless discarding of usable items such as appliances, furniture, non-perishable foods, clothing and any other item that can be repurposed.
While spending time with my closest friends, I have had the incredible opportunity to give back, recycling thousands of items all while helping the environment, Geneseo students and several other organizations such as Chances and Changes, Geneseo-Groveland Food Pantry, Geneseo Parish Outreach Center, Hearthside Cats and other animal shelters, and Geneseo Central School Earthwise Club's Scrap Metal Drive and Electronics Drive.
Although my time at Geneseo is coming to an end, I will never forget the memories that I have made with my friends in the program. From the Dunkin’ coffee runs to help fuel the never-ending couch pickups, to cruising around campus in the pan loco van. I have nothing but positive things to say about this entire experience and highly recommend anyone who is interested to take part in this opportunity.
A huge thanks to Sarah Mclean of the Interfaith center who runs the program, and has dedicated so much of her time to helping others.
Annibell Collican '20 Geneseo Cross Country
The seniors on the XC team had the opportunity to win four SUNYAC championships, regional titles, and compete at nationals. One moment that I will always remember is being able to compete at the SUNYAC championships my senior year because all of my housemates - and best friends - were able to travel and compete. Only 14 runners are allowed to race at SUNYACS, and four seniors being on that podium is something we had all been working for and encouraging each other towards. Being able to sit on the podium with my friends is what really mattered, and I will always be grateful to Geneseo for bringing me my people and all of the opportunities I have had to run and grow. My favorite memory will always be being able to put in countless miles with my best friends as we all reached for the same goal and wanted to better ourselves. Wherever my team was, I wanted to be there. Running around, sharing stories, crying, traveling, and laughing are the memories I will take with me!
Aailyah Smith '20 Peace Action Geneseo
I have many favorite memories from Peace Action but the first that comes to mind is going to the PANY (Peace Action New York) Conference in October 2019. During this conference, a few of my fellow peace action members and I had an all paid weekend trip to New York City to learn and network with peace and nuclear deterrence activists from all over the state. Through this opportunity, I was able to meet new people, practice lobbying and leadership skills, and learn more about nuclear weapons. That conference truly opened my eyes to the extent nuclear weapons pose a real threat to our societies and how it interconnects with other global issues, such as climate change. In those three days, I learned so much about myself and how I can do more to be involved in peace activism. I am extremely grateful that I discovered Peace Action and was able to be involved as an Eboard member. Through this organization, I had opportunities to lobby in political areas, be involved in planning peaceful protests, spread awareness of global issues, and grow as an individual. Peace Action pushed me to get out of my comfort zone and be more outspoken about the issues that should be given attention and take active action. Truly, I now live by the motto: Peace Demands Action.
Marissa Marini '20 Delta Phi Epsilon
I went through a traumatic experience before realizing I needed to do something different, and join something that was bigger than me. It was my sophomore year of college when I decided to join a Greek organization after hearing such positive remarks from people who did so. A year and a half into college, I was living with a toxic ex roommate who, to make a long story short, caused my first year and a half to be chaotic. When I finally joined Delta Phi Epsilon, my whole outlook on life changed, and I finally found where I belonged at Geneseo. To sum it up, one of my favorite memories from this organization of empowering women was when I met my closest friends, who pulled me out of my rough first few years, and into the light of something bigger and better. I am truly blessed to have come out of Geneseo with this experience, and it has changed me for the better!
Camille Montalbano '20 Ultimate Frisbee
This club has completely transformed my college experience. From my first practice freshman year, through tournaments and team events along the way, Ultimate Frisbee has provided a second family for myself and countless others. The community is welcoming and loving, and as an athletic team it inspires me to work hard and motivate my teammates. My favorite memory was the last point of Regionals my Junior year. I was one of the captains of the women's team, and we had worked so hard to make it to the very last game of the tournament - Nationals was just within reach. The men's team had played some hard-fought games too, and had joined us on the sideline to root on our team. We all came together to play the sport we love, facing intense competition alongside our closest friends. Although we lost that game, we were so proud of how far we had come. I will always be grateful for the hard work and team spirit that Geneseo Ultimate Frisbee is all about.
Hannah Fahy '20 Circus Club at Geneseo
One of my favorite memories from Circus Club is performing at Holiday Jubilee! We worked really hard to choreograph something exciting and fun to share at that event. It’s a challenge because sometimes you don’t execute a skill as well as you’d like or your nerves make you move too fast and you get out of sync with the music. Nevertheless, it’s really rewarding to perform circus arts because it delights a crowd!
Bridget Pitre '20 Sigma Gamma Phi
My favorite memories are from our sisterhood trips; ranging from drive-in movies, hiking trips, painting the Greek tree, going to the hot air balloon festival in Dansville, paint nights, and apple picking as a sorority. Through these activities, I grew closer with all the members and made lasting friendships. I will miss all my sisters when I graduate!
Sydney Lyon '20 MTC
MTC as a whole was my favorite memory. The people in that club are home. Working so hard all semester & putting on a show together was so rewarding. And when this whole pandemic went down, their constant support made it so much easier to handle. Knowing that I have this other family. MTC is something I will take with me everywhere I go.
Morgan Schultz '20 Geneseo Women's Rugby Club
Rugby was the first organization that I joined at Geneseo my freshman year. I knew that being in a new environment and at a whole new school, this was the time to step out of my comfort zone and try something that I've never done before. My first practice was on a Friday and it was exhilarating. We were taught how to tackle, how to throw the ball and were able to watch all of the experienced players get ready for their first game of the season. The team convinced me to travel with them the next day to their game in Rochester. I went prepared to cheer on from the sidelines and watch my first game of rugby EVER. I've never seen such a powerful sport before and from that moment on, I was hooked. The team ended up throwing me into the B-side game which was terrifying considering I barely knew how to even throw the ball. It was AMAZING. Four years later, I have built amazing friendships with my teammates, I've won four MVP game-day balls, and grew so confident in myself because of this sport. Rugby isn't just a game you play once a week. Its a culture. Its something that empowers you. This sport has given me the kick to tell myself "Yes, you can do this. You are a strong woman. You are amazing and incredible for the strength that you endure through this sport which carries you through to your everyday life." I am so happy to have this team and to have been able to be a part of rugby culture. It has truly changed my life and I'm blessed to have had to opportunity to play Geneseo rugby.

One of my favorite memories from the clubs/orgs I am in was when I was presented with the opportunity to represent Geneseo's Undergraduate Alumni Association at a conference in Louisville, Kentucky. I have not traveled many places so far in my life so I was super grateful to have the opportunity to explore a new state and city while getting to meet students from across the county that belong to similar organizations as ours!
Emily Cataldo '20 Exit 8 Acapella
Acapella as a whole normally performs in the Wadsworth auditorium, but this past year we were allowed the Alice Austin theater for one of our concerts which did not allow us to watch each other perform. As disappointing as that was, each group was assigned rooms to practice and wait until our stage time was called. However, the energy of a concert night and the entire group trapped in a room wearing all the same colors and bouncing off each others excitement, the time waiting was almost better than the performance that night. We were laughing and running around like we were 10 years old again, and nothing compares to the freeing feeling of 18 people dancing together like no ones watching.

My favorite memory of UAA was the summer after my freshman year when I worked Reunion with my club mates. I hadn’t really known anyone in the club very well before so that weekend gave me valuable time to grow closer to club members while helping out the Geneseo community!

Humans Versus Zombies was the first club that I ever was involved in at Geneseo and one of the few that I have participated in for all seven years that I have been a student at Geneseo. Taking on the role of someone else as a human or a zombie was incredible and took me to another world--whether I was a human experiencing the fake, fun "stress" of having to look for zombies wherever I went, or being a zombie and planning sneak attacks. I made so many friends through this club my freshman year, and one of my best memories involved a few senior friends. One of them had a Nerf sword that had been passed down through generations of Nerf players. The rule was that anyone who had the sword could not keep it; they had to pass it to another Nerf member when they graduated. I was the one who my senior friends gave the sword to. It was like being King Arthur or something. I'm so excited to pass it along and keep the magic of this club going strong.

My favorite memory with KDT is performing at Relay for Life. It’s such an inspiring event, and performing in front of the whole school is so much fun! I’m always so in awe of my team especially because although we are small, we almost always are in the top five fundraising teams against huge organizations. I will miss this team tremendously, but I know that trying out freshman year was one of the best decisions I ever made! I am so lucky to have such an amazing group of girls and to have made some of my best friends throughout my time at Geneseo!

Emma Belson '20 Geneseo College Activities Board, Sigma Gamma Phi, Tour Guide
Becoming a tour guide was a really special moment during my years at Geneseo. So many movies and tv shows depict how a tour guide helps sway a students decision to chose their school and help start their college careers on a positive note. I enjoyed talking with students and parents and making lame jokes that other tour guides had taught me or even creating my own. I met an alumni of SUNY Geneseo and of my sorority Arethusa during one of my tours. Not only had the mother been a member, but her mother too! So it was really exciting getting to talk to her about how the sorority had changed or stayed the same and how much love they had for Arethusa even after all these years.
Being a tour guide also allowed me to work on my public speaking skills and be more open about my thoughts and opinions. I really had to take charge of large groups and help them learn more about the school as an institution of learning but also as a community.
